Gary Winders is a visual artist working in watercolor, acrylic and oil paints as well as photography. He has spent a lifetime afield in the woods or on the water, hunting, fishing, canoeing and backpacking. He draws inspiration from the beauty that surrounds him in these settings for his paintings and photography. Although he has drawn and painted from an early age, Gary was awakened to the possibilities of a life in art when he studied drawing under Conger Metcalf while attending Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. After attending seminary Gary earned a degree in advertising and graphic design from Otis/Parsons, Los Angeles, and went on to establish Winders Studio in Pasadena, California. While there he won awards for his work in corporate identity. Throughout the years Gary has also been engaged in architectural design and illustration. Recently, he has completed illustrations for a children’s book and did the design and illustrations for a book of poetry and prose. In the Maine Duck Stamp competition, he won second place in 2019 and first place in 2021. His works are in private collections throughout the United States.
